Agency Background
The Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center (APADRC) was founded by the Asian Pacific American Legal Center in 1989. The original mission of the APADRC was to provide culturally and linguistically competent dispute resolution services to the LA County API communities. APADRC continues to serve this population in over six languages through its staff and volunteer mediators in the Community and Intergroup Conflicts program. The agency has expanded its services to include a diverse population of clients, with a focus on school based programs through its Youth Mediators United program currently housed at four local middle and high schools in Los Angeles County. APADRC has developed unique training models and conflict intervention tools to work effectively in cross-cultural disputes. Its current staff of nine and over 30 volunteers a year work proactively to both prevent and resolve a wide range of conflicts. A recognized leader in the field of cross-cultural dispute resolution, the agency has developed innovative training curricula for adults and youth in the area of inter-cultural conflict resolution. In addition, APADRC partners with other community organizations, schools, and government agencies to effectively address the conflict resolution needs of the diverse LA community.
