Call for NAPABA Program Ideas
December 12, 2004

A message from Amy Lin Meyerson, NAPABA President-Elect:

Dear NAPABA Members,
On the heels of the excellent programs presented in Dallas, you’ll be glad to know that our 2005 Annual Convention in Chicago is less than 11 months away!
It’s time to plan for Chicago’s programs!
Instead of the customary “top-down” approach (i.e., Committee Chairs doing all the work on programs), for Chicago, we’re trying a bottom-up approach to engage our membership and draw from your wealth of ideas and networks.
To that end, we are issuing this “Call for Program Submissions” to encourage you to submit a program idea. Below is a Program Submission Form for your use. Here’s your chance to make a real impact on NAPABA’s continuing efforts to develop meaningful and effective programs that are responsive to the growing needs and interests of the APA legal community.
If your idea is selected for Chicago, you’ll be the “Program Chair” (and listed as such in the Conference materials) who will be responsible for the organization of the program (you can be moderator as well).
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS SATURDAY, APRIL 2, 2005.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. Program submissions will be selected by the Programs Committee.
2. Keep it practical, “non-basic”, substantively leading edge, and truly informative (give the speakers a forum to show that they are EXPERTS in the field).
3. Speakers should be leading lawyers (in the minds of more than just yours!) in their field, as well as leading business personalities, academics and government officials. Bottom line: pick speakers that you would be willing to take time out of your busy schedule AND pay money to hear.
4. Interactive formats anchored by a STRONG moderator are preferred. (Instead of a speaker giving his monologue for 20 minutes, why not have interactive exchanges between the moderator and the speaker(s) to elicit the same information in an interview Q&A style? Think CNN’s Larry King Live).
5. 75-minute programs are preferred.
6. For the purposes of your Program Submission, availability and willingness of the proposed speakers do not need to be confirmed. For example, a speaker listed as “Ms. YXZ, Partner, MegaFirm & Partners, Tokyo, Japan (to be invited)” is acceptable. The more complete your proposed speaker list is, however, the more we’ll have to evaluate the merits of your Submission.
Questions should be directed to Grace Hong at graciehong@yahoo.com
Don’t miss this chance to make Chicago one of the most successful NAPABA Annual Conventions ever.
Remember: THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS SATURDAY, APRIL 2, 2005.
Best regards,
Amy Lin Meyerson
NAPABA President-Elect
