APABA’s MCLE/Programs Committee presents seminars, which are frequently combined with social and networking events, for MCLE credit on matters of interest to the APABA membership. In May 2003, to commemorate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, our committee helped organize “Lessons Learned: From the Japanese American Internment Experience to Today” which included a screening of the award-winning video, “Of Civil Rights and Wrongs: The Fred Korematsu Story,” followed by a distinguished panel discussion about the implications of the Japanese American Internment and the subsequent successful coram nobis petition to overturn Korematsu’s conviction against the backdrop of current wartime hysteria, terrorism, hate crimes, and national security legislation. Other seminars have covered topics ranging from wage and hour law to legal ethics.
